Choose an announcement that benefits from a demonstration
A feature update, product variant or practical application may be easier to understand through a visible example. Choose that reason rather than attaching a film as extra content. The email should briefly explain which question the demo answers and why that information matters to the people receiving it.
Existing customers may already know the product. They do not need another introduction to the whole brand before learning what changed. A feature demo can connect directly to their existing workflow. New prospects may need more context. The audience determines how far we can simplify the opening without losing meaning.
A linked preview is often the practical approach
Many email clients do not reliably support video playback inside the message. Wistia therefore describes a thumbnail with a play symbol linking to the film. Its documentation is linked below. We check your actual sending system and presentation rather than assuming the video will play directly in every inbox.
The preview should represent the film. Choose a scene where the product or new feature is recognisable. A play symbol belongs on an image that actually leads to video. An animated preview may also be possible, but its first frame should make sense when the animation is not shown.
One announcement. A connected route.

Connect the email, film and destination
The subject creates interest, the preview establishes the reason and the film demonstrates the application. A relevant next step should follow. If the email announces a feature, the destination should pick up that same feature. A general page with no useful connection breaks the explanation and makes people search again.
The film can live on a product page or suitable landing page. The content and existing website determine the best destination. The original schematic illustrates that route through a fictional feature announcement. It is not an actual email campaign and does not contain performance measurements or customer data.
Reuse a scene with an opening that fits
An existing product film can provide a useful starting point. Its selected scene needs to show the change or application the email announces. A general showreel may cover too much. I check whether a focused cut or a new view would make the announcement easier to understand without creating an unnecessary full production.
For a software update, the previous state, one action and its new result may be enough. For a physical variant, show the relevant difference and a suitable application. The preview is developed from the same idea so the email does not promise a different story from the one viewers then see.
Separate preview clicks from meaningful interest
Clicking a thumbnail is not the same as playing a video or buying. The marketing team should consider the route: arrival on the page, use of the film and intended action. Available and suitable measurements depend on the email and website systems. They should be planned for the actual campaign.
The first clarity test does not require complicated analytics. Show a relevant person the preview and film. Can they explain the announcement and what they can do next? Comparison data can help after publication. Adding a video does not automatically produce a particular increase in clicks or purchases.
Define the media you need for the campaign
Share the announcement, planned email and existing films or product assets. Include the audience, destination and publication date. I suggest a suitable scene or shorter version. The film, preview images and delivery formats are named in the quote so the production work has a clear boundary.
Sending the newsletter, managing the list and running the campaign are not automatically included. The responsible team implements the assets and tests the message before sending. That makes it clear which media you receive from me and who handles their technical use. An existing film can then serve a specific additional purpose.
- Reason for the email and its audience
- One announced change or application
- Existing assets and approved claims
- Email system and linked destination
- Video, preview formats, budget and deadline
Common questions
Does the video have to play inside the email?
No. A thumbnail linking to the film is often more reliable. The actual email system and destination are checked before sending.
Can you create the preview images too?
Yes, as agreed deliverables alongside the film or shorter cut. The quote lists the number, sizes and any animated versions.
Does every newsletter need a new film?
Not necessarily. A relevant existing scene may be enough. The preview and film should accurately explain the current announcement.
A preview links to a demo of the same feature. The destination picks up the result and offers a relevant next action.
