What should the opening frame tell someone?
Start with a specific situation rather than a general welcome. For a travel eSIM, that could be arriving without mobile data. For an app, it might be a task that currently takes too much effort. The opening does not need to explain every feature, but the reason to pay attention should be clear without background knowledge.
A large logo and a long introduction rarely do that job. Choose one readable moment and a short line. Whether a question, an action or a result works best can be tested through variants later. Fast cutting alone does not make the message clearer. A quieter opening can work when it shows the detail that matters to the audience.
Vertical needs its own composition
9:16 is a useful starting point for Reels. Keep the key product detail and message clear of platform controls and captions. Check the current ad preview rather than relying on an old template. The shaded areas in the illustration below are a reminder to check the placement, not an exact pixel specification.
A complete desktop interface becomes tiny on a phone. Show the relevant area and let viewers see the result of the action. For a physical product, use a clear outline, understandable movement and a sufficiently large detail shot. Review the draft on an actual small screen; copy that looks comfortable on a large monitor can be difficult to read on a phone.
- Opening: can someone understand the situation without extra explanation?
- Product: is the important detail visible on a phone?
- Copy: is the message readable and clear of platform overlays?
- Audio: does it support the film without carrying the entire explanation?
- Destination: does the next step match the page after the click?
One message. A visible product moment.
- 01
One clear situation
The opening makes the reason to watch clear.
- 02
A readable product moment
The key status stays large enough to read on a phone.
- 03
A suitable next step
The action leads to the offer shown.
Show the product proof behind the promise
‘Travel made easy’ is a promise. A clear setup sequence followed by a visible connection makes the product idea tangible. Choose a sequence that reflects the real service. Animation can simplify the explanation, but it must not invent speed, features or availability. The business should approve product statements and conditions before release.
My independent TRAVEL eSIM concept moves from a connectivity problem to a proposed travel product. It illustrates a visual sequence, not the performance of a real plan. For a commissioned ad, the interface, message and result need to match the actual offer. That distinction makes the film a useful product demonstration rather than an attractive but interchangeable advertising image.
Plan sound and on-screen copy together
Sound can carry rhythm, transitions and the feel of the product. The central message should still be understandable in the image. A narrated version may need readable captions; a visual demo can often use short prompts at the decisive moments. Every spoken sentence does not also need to become a large headline on screen.
Give copy enough time to read instead of forcing every line into the quickest possible beat. A technical term with an explanation takes longer than a short phrase. Avoid competing text animations during the key product action. Review the film on a phone with sound and again muted. Missing information and rushed moments are usually easier to spot that way.
Make each ad variant answer a question
Variants should test a specific decision. For example, open with the problem in one version and the result in another, then keep the same demo. The changed element remains identifiable. If the opening, offer, audience and landing page all change at once, a difference in performance becomes difficult to connect to the film.
For a first production, a main film with planned alternative openings may be more useful than many almost identical edits. The agreed scope determines what fits the budget. Your campaign team handles delivery and the test setup. A video with many views is not automatically the ad that produces the best enquiries or purchases.
What do I need to start?
Send the product link, audience, offer and intended action: visiting a product page, discovering an app or sending an enquiry. Existing ads can be helpful references. Include the versions you need, deadline and budget. You do not need a finished script or your own vertical footage before getting in touch.
I suggest the product moment that can carry the opening and identify what needs creating. The quote specifies the main film, extra variants, formats and review rounds. We should also know who runs the campaign and evaluates the results. Producing the creative and managing the advertising account are separate responsibilities.
Common questions
Can an existing landscape film become a Reels ad?
Sometimes. If cropping removes important UI, copy or product details, the vertical version needs a different composition. I review the available material before defining the extra work.
How long should a Reels ad be?
Long enough to make the situation, product moment and next step understandable. There is no winning duration for every offer. Check current technical limits for the intended placement in Ads Manager as well.
Does FORMFOLGE also run the ads?
The service here is video design and production. Campaign setup, media spend and ongoing optimisation are not automatically included. We agree the deliverables with your campaign team.
The mockup uses a travel-eSIM idea with a large main message and a visible product status. Shaded edges remind you to review the actual platform preview.
